Holy Trinity Church, St. Andrews

Boarhills and Dunino and St Andrews

Holy Trinity Church of Scotland

Dear Friends,
Today we have to say goodbye to our choir and probably most of our students in the congregation until the next academic session And of course some of our choir and students will not be returning next session as they will have moved on to the next stage in their lives. We are all very grateful for all that they have shared with us, both their music, their conversation, and their friendship, and we wish all of them a very happy summer and offer them our best wishes for the next stage of their lives.
We are also very pleased to welcome those ‘Friends of Holy Trinity’ who have been able to come and worship with us today, for it is they who support our choir and the musical tradition of this congregation. However, as we say welcome and goodbye, I would like to remind all of us of the importance of the friendships we make at every stage of life.
In his play ‘As you like it’ Shakespeare speaks of the seven ages or stages of man. We in Holy Trinity have so many friends, and we have been privileged to share in this particular stage on life’s journey of so many students. So we celebrate the friendships made and the discussions shared. But friendships do not end when that particular stage of life ends. So, to all of you, ‘Friends’, members of the choir and students in the congregation I want to say this. We in Boarhills, Dunino and St Andrews Holy Trinity will always be your friends. You will always find a welcome here. So, we look forward to welcoming old friends and new at the beginning of the next academic session, and we do hope that those who are leaving will come back and see us when they can.
And as for the rest of us. Let us continue to nurture the friendships we have with each other and do our best to expand our circle of friends. And more importantly, let us continue to nurture the friendship we have with Christ so that his circle may also grow. Today we celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion, when Jesus invites all his friends to share with him and remember him around the Holy Table. After all it is friendship, both spiritual and physical that add lustre to all our lives and inspire us to go forward to the next stage of life and achievement with positivity.
With love and blessings,
Marion
