Dear Friends,
As I write, Christian Aid Week is just drawing to a close. Coffee Mornings and other special events have been held, donation envelopes have dropped through letter boxes or been distributed in church, and hopefully have been filled and are currently being collected, collecting boxes have been emptied and all the proceeds passed to the charity. All this to help those less fortunate than we are in all parts of the world to be able to sustain a better standard of life.
At the same time, the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland is just beginning. Commissioners will have gathered in Edinburgh and will spend the coming days discussing the future of our denomination. Let us hope and pray that they will look forward in faith and plan with hope and optimism as they seek to fulfil the spiritual needs of the people of Scotland and beyond.
Both organisations are seeking to do the will of God for the people of God both at home and abroad. Both organisations need our prayerful and practical support. It was George Herbert, the writer of our opening hymn today who wrote these words
Teach me my God and King
In all things thee to see
And what I do in anything
To do it as for thee.
If all people could live their lives with these words as their constant inspiration, the world would surely be a better place.
With love and blessings,
Marion
