Dear Friends,
Leonardo da Vinci had started work on a large canvas in his study. For a while he worked at it – choosing the subject, planning the perspective, sketching the outline, applying the colours with his own inimitable genius. Then suddenly he ceased, the painting still unfinished, and summoning one of his students, invited him to complete the work. The student protested that he was both unworthy and unable to complete the great painting that his master had begun. But da Vinci silenced him with these words ‘Will not what I have done inspire you to do your best?’
We all admire people who are able to do great work for Christ, but we have a terrible tendency to leave them to do their work alone, making the excuse that we are unworthy or unable, or both, to help them. Indeed, there are those in this congregation who are doing great and important work for Christ in so many different ways. But there are others who are happy to let them get on with it without offering to help. Even if you can only do a very small amount that will be helpful. However, most importantly, we can all pray for the work that is being done.
Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, began his work two thousand years ago. By what he said and what he did, and supremely by what he suffered. he illustrated the importance of his message, and now he has left us to finish the picture.
With love and blessings,
Marion
