holy trinity church

Dear Friends,

This morning when I switched on my radio, I found myself listening to something called ‘A Symphony of Easter’. I had never heard of such a thing before, but as it was beautiful baroque music I continued to listen. I noted that it was to last well over an hour, so needless to say, did not listen to it all. It turned out to be a compilation of many shorter pieces that had been cleverly linked together to make it seem like one whole piece. That set me thinking about the word ‘Symphony’.

A symphony, we are told, is an extended, elaborate musical composition for a full orchestra, typically structured in four distinct movements that explore varied moods and tempos. Originating from the Italian sinfonia and deriving from Greek for “agreement of sound”, this classical form commonly features strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion. The interesting thing about this is that so many different instruments, so many different harmonies, so many different melodies are all brought together to make one harmonious, satisfying and attractive whole.

This led me on to think about the church, the Body of Christ, which if we follow the same principle, is made up of so many different people with so many different talents and at so many different stages on the journey of faith. In the church, the Body of Christ, these people come together, welcoming others along the way, and should make one harmonious and attractive whole. The church should be, if you like, a ‘Symphony of Faith’.

We have just celebrated the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ at Easter, and it would be good if the world could see the church, the Body of Christ, as a beautiful, harmonious, attractive and welcoming ‘Symphony of Faith’.

With love and blessings,

Marion
