Dear Friends,
We have all done it! We have all waited for a delivery or a tradesperson that was to be with us within a certain time frame. And the delivery or the person has simply not arrived. This morning, I was told that a delivery would arrive between 9am and 12 noon, but it is now 5:30pm and nothing has arrived. In this case it is only a minor irritation, but there are occasions when this sort of thing can be really upsetting and disruptive.
For so many people life is governed by the clock. This is particularly true for those who have to go to work and be there at a certain time and work for certain hours. But it is also true for those who are retired but have medical or other types of appointment. Being on time is important and one could argue that it is at best inconsiderate to be late. At worst it throws everything else out of kilter.
Time is a wonderful God-given gift, a gift that we can keep to ourselves or offer to others. It is a gift that we can use or we can waste. It is a precious gift that we can offer to others, and this particular gift often has a very positive impact on both parties. And it is a gift that we can offer back to God as a gift to the work of the church. Those who offer their time to the church know that their gift is very much appreciated.
It was Benjamin Franklin who one said ‘Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff that life is made of’.
With love and blessings,
Marion
