Dear Friends,
This week, amongst many other things, I have been thinking about rubber stamps! This is because we will need a rubber stamp to mark people’s Pilgrim Passport as they complete the Fife Pilgrim Way. At the same time, I have been looking at our current church logo which appears on our Order of Service each week. It is made up of three elements. A Trinity knot, which is an ancient Christian symbol, and images of our two places of worship. But I wonder if you have ever asked yourselves what the design really means.
The Trinity Knot is made up of a Circle, which often represents eternity, wholeness, and God’s unending nature, and Borromean rings which form an everlasting pattern and represent the three aspects of God, Father Son and Holy Spirit. These two are interwoven with each other and together represent the everlasting nature of the love of the three persons of God for all people. Then in the centre surrounded by this design, are images of our two places of worship.
These buildings have been the bases from which the people of God of past generations have gone out to witness for Christ for hundreds of years. If you think about it, it is because of what they did that we are here today. And as the people of God in our own day, we are still called to witness for Christ, and we have a responsibility to hand on our Christian heritage to future generations. To reflect the love of Christ in all that we do is such an important part of what it means to be the ‘Body of Christ’ in the world of today.
We are constantly being asked about our mission activities in the local area and beyond. Our logo symbolises all that we would like to be doing. But we do all have to play our part. So, can we rise to the challenge in our twenty-first century world, just as the twelve disciples rose to the challenge in the days following the resurrection of Christ, and just as our Christian forebears have done in years gone by?
With love and blessings,
Marion
