Dear friends,
It was Dr. Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) who once said, ‘A man, Sir, should keep his friendship in constant repair’. That is not a very politically correct statement for our own day for I am sure everyone would agree that we should all nurture our friendships and keep them in constant repair! So today we welcome the ‘Friends of Holy Trinity’ those friends who support the music of our worship through our Choral Scholarship scheme. Whether you are with us in person or online, you are our friends, and we value your company and your support. Do please join us for our concert in Holy Trinity at 7:30pm tonight.
However, there is another very important friendship that we should all constantly nurture and keep in good repair, and that is our friendship with the risen Christ. We can nurture that friendship through prayer and in worship and more especially, by simply acknowledging that he is with us and we with him in all the details of our everyday life. This is what Jesus meant when he said ‘I will be with you always, to the very end of time’.
And today, Jesus our friend, invites all of us to share a meal with him, for in the symbolism of the elements of bread and wine he offers himself to all of us. So, welcome, friends (in-person or online), to this celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Communion, where here, amongst so many friends we can celebrate the saving love of Christ for all people.
With love and blessings, Marion
