Dear Friends,
It is summer holiday time, and I guess that many of you have either been away, as I have, or are going away in the near future. But I also guess that there will be others who are not able, for various reasons, to get away for a break from the usual routines. With this in mind, we felt that our next two Short Afternoon Services should be a little different from usual. So, on the first Friday of July at 3pm we shall have a ‘Summer Holiday’ service where we hope to be able to serve ice-cream. And on the first Friday of August, we shall have a ‘Summer Suns’ service. And of course everyone is welcome at these services.
Summer holidays are great opportunities to explore new places, enjoy new experiences, and to experience other ways of Christian worship. Most of us are creatures of habit and like to do things in the same way on a regular basis. But being away from home brings with it opportunities to try something new. For me, the Pilgrim Mass at Santiago Cathedral was something different. I wouldn’t like to worship like that every Sunday, but it was certainly a worthwhile experience. And even at home our Friday service, as well as Sunday worship in other churches gives an opportunity to experience something different and to learn from others.
They do say that ‘a change is as good as a rest’ and we all need a change and a rest from time to time. Whether you are going to be at home or away this summer I hope that you will all find rest and refreshment in your worship so that we can all approach the new season with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.
With love and blessings,
Marion
