holy trinity church

Dear Friends,

When most of us were children, Father’s Day was not celebrated in the UK, and I can remember my father saying in the early 1970s that it was an American commercial invention, just another way to part people from their cash. Certainly, Father’s Day is a secular celebration and is not recognized in the liturgical calendar. But perhaps it should be for most of us have much for which to thanks our fathers.

Today is Father’s Day, and as I do every Sunday, and on other days, I shall give a blessing at the end of our service. And as I do so, I shall remember my earthly father who was and continues to be an inspiration in all that I do. I often wonder how he would react if he had known that in the end I did follow in his footsteps, as he had hoped I would.

But even more importantly, the blessing at the end of the service is ‘In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit’. So today we remember and give thanks for the universal Fatherhood of God, the example of his Son, and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, both today and every day.

I shall be on holiday for the next three Sundays and during that period the Rev Alastair Symington (email revdahs74@gmail.com) will be looking after pastoral matters in Boarhills, Dunino and St Andrews Holy Trinity.

With love and blessings,

Marion
