holy trinity church

Dear Friends,
I guess many of you, like me, have been watching the Winter Olympics. Although I have never skied or skated I love to see others doing it and am always amazed at the bravery and the skill and discipline that these athletes demonstrate. Curling too is fascinating, even if I can’t quite understand the finer points of the skills and strategies needed. But even more important than the technicalities of the sports that we watch, is the way the athletes deal with each other. Although they are fiercely competitive and want to be the best they can be, they are also so supportive of each other, congratulating medal winners and commiserating with and encouraging those who have not done quite so well.
Surely, we could all learn something from this sort of attitude. Yes, most people want to be the best that they can be, and many but not all people have something at which they excel. But life should not be a competition. There should never be winners and losers, only people doing their best to support and encourage each other. The church too, should always be a place of respect and encouragement, support and love.
Jesus says ‘Love one another, as I have loved you, so you must love one another’. If all people could do this the world would be a much better place.
With love and blessings,
Marion
