Dear Friends,
Henry Ford was once having lunch with a man who suddenly asked him, ‘Who is your best friend?’ Then he started naming certain people. ‘No’ said Mr Ford. ‘I will tell you who your best friend is. He took out a pencil and wrote on the tablecloth this sentence. ‘Your best friend is he who brings out the best that is within you’.
Some time ago, now, the congregations of Boarhills and Dunino, and St Andrews Holy Trinity became one congregation. Inevitably there were those in each congregation who didn’t know people from the other congregation, and as both buildings are being used it can sometimes be difficult for people to get to know each other.
Next Sunday we shall be worshipping together in Holy Trinity at 11:15 for our Advent carol Service, and after the service there will be light refreshments in the Hunter and Memorial Aisle for all who can stay. This is an opportunity for all of us to get together and get to know each other better. After all, as a single congregation we should all be thinking about bringing out the best that is within us, and we can only do that as we get to know each other better. Few things bring us more joy than the time we get to spend with our friends. In many ways, friends are the family that we choose. They are the people that we cherish and care for, and whom we can depend on. And our friendship in Christ is so important.
Jesus says. ‘No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you’. We are all his friends as we work together in the building up the body of Christ in our communities.
With love and blessings,
Marion
