Organist and Choirmaster
Thomas G Duncan was a choral
scholar in the Chapel Choir of the
University of Glasgow from 1954 to
1958. He gave his first organ recital
in the chapel of Pembroke College,
Oxford in 1959 where, with Lionel
Pike, he founded the 'Pembroke
Consort'. In 1963, he was appointed
to a lectureship in English at St
Andrews University, as well as to the
post of Organist and Choirmaster of
Holy Trinity Parish Church. In addition,
he has been the organist for the St Andrews University Renaissance Group.
Throughout his career as a lecturer, Thomas has published many articles and
several books, including Medieval English Lyrics 1200-1400 (Penguin
Classics, 1995) and Late Medieval English Lyrics and Carols 1400-1530
(Penguin Classics, 2000).
During nearly half a century as Organist at Holy Trinity, Thomas Duncan has
given many recitals in St Andrews and throughout Great Britain, Europe and
the United States of America. A notable engagement was a recital in the year
2000 for the millennial Bach celebrations in Thuringia in Germany, when he
played in Dornheim in the church in which Bach was first married.
He has also acted as Consultant in the building of a number of distinguished
organs, including the organ in the chapel of Royal Holloway, University of
London.
